ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed authorities concerned to prepare a master plan to convert Gilgit Baltistan (GB) into a tourist place of international standard.
During a meeting with GB Chief Minister Mohammad Khalid Khursheed Khan today, PM Imran said the suitability of projects for a specific region cannot be decided in Islamabad and the region’s representatives will now implement projects as per their requirements.
The prime minister said the government will make maximum efforts for promoting tourism in GB as the sector suffered a huge loss due to the coronavirus pandemic.
During the meeting, they discussed in detail the mega projects to convert the whole of Gilgit Baltistan into a tourist place of international standard. Under the project, all urban and rural areas of Gilgit Baltistan would be reorganized through a master plan.
Besides, the introduction of house plans, street system, sewerage and clean drinking water, the project included the provision of basic amenities for the facilitation of tourists at various places.
Under the project, the local population would be provided basic facilities, including quality education and healthcare on a priority basis.
PM Imran said the projects, which had the potential of converting the region’s tourism into an industry of billions of dollars, will also create ample job opportunities for the local people.
The prime minister appreciated the chief minister for the proposed projects and directed to present a comprehensive strategy and master plan in that respect by February.
