ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 53 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel COVID-19 as the number of positive cases surged to 486,634 on Sunday.
According to the latest data issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 2,272 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the past 24 hours. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 10,311.
Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.
To date, 217,636 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 140,188 in Punjab 59,255 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 38,146 in Islamabad, 18,218 in Balochistan, 8,325 in Azad Kashmir and 4,866 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Besides, 4,109 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 3,594 in Sindh, 1,672 in KP, 424 in Islamabad, 226 in Azad Kashmir, 185 in Balochistan, and 101 in GB.
Pakistan has so far conducted 6,819,699 COVID-19 tests and 44,392 in the last 24 hours. 440,660 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,784 patients are in critical condition.
According to NCOC data, the national positivity rate is 5.8%. Karachi has the highest positivity rate in the country at 15.7% followed by Peshawar at 15.5 % and Mirpur is the third-highest with 9.2%.
Sindh has a positivity rate of 8.1%, Punjab 4.7%, Balochistan 3.8% and KP 5.3%. Whereas, Islamabad’s positivity rate stands at 3.3%, Gilgit-Baltistan 1.4 percent and AJK at 8.5%. Karachi has so far confirmed five cases of the new UK COVID-19 variant in UK returnees.
