ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Friday once again summoned the Indian envoy to protest against unprovoked and constant ceasefire violations by Indian forces along the Line of Control.
According to a statement, Foreign Office spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia again and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sharda, Nezapir, Satwal and Bagsar Sectors on 10th October 2019.
Due to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by Indian forces in Sharda sector of LOC, a child Faizan s/o Faiz Mir, aged 10, was killed and sixteen other civilians, including six children and two women, sustained serious injuries.
In addition, two people were injured including a woman in Nezapir, three including a child and a woman were injured in Satwal Sector, and one person was injured in Bagsar Sector.
The Indian forces along the LoC and Working Boundary have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars, and automatic weapons, which still continues, said the Foreign Office.
The statement said that unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing since 2017 when Indian forces committed 1970 ceasefire violations, adding that these ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.
The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws, it added.
FO spokesman urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, investigate these and other incidents of ceasefire violations, and instruct Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary.
He urged that the Indian side should permit UNMOGIP to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
