ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Monday) has inaugurated Pakistan’s largest Billion Tree Tsunami Honey Project in the federal capital, which is part of the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign.
The green Pakistan campaign aims at promoting tree plantation to support the production of Honey in the country under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme (TBTTP).
The premier, speaking during the inauguration ceremony, spoke on several matters, including the biggest challenges that Pakistan faces. “No government had a vision beyond their five-year tenure, leaving the country without a long term party,” he said.
The prime minister said that the nation needs to take care of its environment as the forest cover in the country is less than the world average. “We have polluted our rivers. The groundwater is also getting polluted,” he added.
PM Imran highlighted that the air quality in Lahore often surpasses the danger level and that ultimately has an adverse impact on the people. “In last 10 years, Pakistan has finished over 70% of its forest cover and replaced it with concrete,” he remarked.
“Pakistan is the fifth most affected in the world by climate change,” he said, adding that every regime that assumed office only thought about its five years and that his government’s biggest challenge was to fix the environmental degradation.
The premier said that the second challenge that Pakistan faces was to increase exports, which would benefit the country economically and environmentally — and this initiative helps in this regard.
As per details, one million acres of forests in Pakistan will produce seven types of honey. The production of honey will be increased from 12,000 metric tons to 70,000 metric tons.
The Ministry of Science and Technology will set up honey laboratories across the country. Thousands of metric billion trees will be able to export brands under the name of Tsunami Honey.
Pakistan will produce berry, cactus, phalli, Russian oak, and ruby honey. Pakistan will be able to export honey worth Rs 45 billion annually to different countries. Under the Billion Tree project, 70,000 to 80,000 people will get employment.
