ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity rates by Rs. 1.11 per unit.
According to a notification released by NEPRA, the electricity tariffs have been increased by Rs. 1.11 per unit for one month. The rates have been increased in lieu of fuel price adjustment.
The consumers will have to pay additional charges this month. Earlier in the month of November, the electricity tariffs have been increased by Rs. 0.48 per unit for one month.
Earlier this week, the NEPRA had decreased industrial tariff by Rs4.96 per unit. The commercial electricity price for small industries has been reduced from Rs12.96 to Rs8 per unit, effective from November 1, 2020.

The new tariff, which is for the entire country except for Karachi, will be applicable for a period of eight months, till 30th June 2021. Sources in the power sector informed that NEPRA has forwarded its decision to the federal government, after which a notification will be issued pursuant to Section 31 (7) of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997.
“NEPRA has ratified the government’s package for industrial consumers by deciding to decrease the electricity price for industries,” an insider said. “The government will grant Rs14 billion worth subsidy against this facility.”
