ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the world community, including human right bodies to act decisively in ending the human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement came while addressing a seminar in connection with the International Human Rights Day in Islamabad today (Sunday). “Basic human rights Kashmiris are being trampled with impunity by India,” he remarked.
The Foreign Minister stressed on the world bodies to call upon India to constitute a commission of inquiry and allow unhindered access to human rights organisations and the international media in IIOJK.
FM Qureshi further said that innocent people of the Occupied Kashmir were suffering systematic and serial violations of their fundamental freedoms. “India has turned the valley into the largest prison on the planet where basic amenities and means of communication are not accessible,” he added.
The Foreign Minister added that shops and hospitals in the region were running out of supplies and the political leadership of Kashmir have been placed under house arrest or imprisoned.
“With its illegal actions, India is breaching multiple international human rights instruments that it was a party to,” he said, reiterating that India’s unilateral decision to revoke Article 370 on August 5 was illegal under international law.
Counting on Pakistan’s efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue at the international level, he said that through its successful foreign policy and narrative building efforts, Pakistan has successfully countered the Indian narrative on terrorism and Kashmir.
“Pakistan would never abandon the Kashmiri people and continue to support the just struggle of Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination,” he concluded.
