ISLAMABAD: An accountability court will indict former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) scam case on 16th November.
The hearing started at 12:00 noon today which was conducted by Judge Azam Khan of the accountability court. Earlier, the court had directed for submission of the original report in compliance with the orders, whereas, the high commission had apprised the court yesterday regarding the compliance of its orders.
Abbasi was arrested in connection with the case in July last year. He is accused of awarding a contract for a LNG terminal allegedly when he was petroleum minister in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet. The Islamabad High Court had granted bail to Abbasi in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) reference on 25th February.

Abbasi, Miftah Ismail, and former PSO Managing Director Imran-ul-Haq and others are facing charges of corruption over awarding a LNG import contract allegedly at exorbitant rates in 2015 caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.
In 2013, Abbasi awarded a LNG import and distribution contract to the Elengy Terminal in violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and relevant laws.
