KARACHI: Sindh government has formed a five-member committee to probe the arrest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Safdar and the incident involving Inspector General Police Sindh.
The committee will be convened bu Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani and includes Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Culture Minister Sardar Shah, Transport Minister Awais Qadir Shah and Sindh government’s spokesman Murtaza Wahab.
According to the Terms of Reference, the committee will incident wherein the police was allegedly pressurised to file a case against Captain retired Safdar. It will probe and enquire about the way and manner in which police raided an upscale hotel and violated the privacy of PML-N leaders.
The committee will also probe the alleged ridiculing, manhandling of the highest level of police which left the entire police force demoralised and unwilling to continue their duties. The committee has to submit its report within thirty days.
The committee has been tasked to complete the investigation on the issues and submit a report to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The investigation report would also be presented before the Sindh Assembly members.
The chief minister had already announced that a ministerial committee will be formed to probe the circumstances surrounding the arrest of retired Captain Safdar.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, he questioned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders expressed support if the case is filed by a private citizen. He alleged that a federal minister was also involved in spreading lies and giving ultimatums to the police.
CM Sindh said the sanctity of the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam should not be violated and laws existed to maintain respect. He said police acted accordingly and were instructed to take complaints.
Captain retired Safdar was arrested for raising slogans in the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam and later was granted bail. The fiasco over his arrest has created a new tussle among state institutions.
