KARACHI: A row has been created over the arrest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Captain (retired) Safdar for violating the sanctity of the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam.

The Sindh government has distanced itself from the arrest, while PML-N senior leader Muhammad Zubair termed it an act of state terrorism, and that “sting operation by the state” was carried out to damage the Pakistan Democratic Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance.

Talking to media, the spokesperson of Maryam and Nawaz Sharif said that they are not afraid of cases and arrests. He said it will soon be revealed who pressurised the Sindh government to make the arrest.

Muhammad Zubair said that he was not allowed to enter the police station despite being a former governor of the province. He also warned of severe reaction if he was not allowed to enter the police station.

On the other hand, senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Saeed Ghani said that the manner in which Safdar was arrested by Karachi Police is condemnable.

Saeed Ghani said that the actions of Captain (retd) Safdar at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum were inappropriate, however, the arrest of the PML-N leader was not ordered by government of Sindh. He further said that this action of police is an attempt to create division in parties of PDM but this conspiracy will be foiled.

Amid the row, it has been revealed that Inspector General Sindh Mushtaq Mahar (IGP) was influenced in ordering Safdar’s arrest.

Senior journalist Kamran Khan revealed that Safdar was arrested by Sindh Police and not the Punjab Police and that IG Sindh was influenced in ordering the arrest. He said the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah should resign or arrest those who influenced the police chief.

This was echoed by renowned anchorperson Gharidah Farooqi over reported that IG Sindh was influed. “What is happening in Sindh?” she exclaimed.

کیپٹن صفدر پر پرچہ کٹوانے کیلئے آئی جی سندھ کو اغوا کیا گیا۔۔۔؟؟؟؟؟!!!!!

یہ کراچی میں کیا ہو رہا ہے؟؟!!

Earlier, Police arrested Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar on Monday for violating the sanctity of the Quaid’s mausoleum after raiding a private hotel in Karachi early morning.

PML-N vice-president Maryman Nawaz took to Twitter to announced that her husband was arrested from a hotel and said, “Police broke my room door at the hotel I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar.”

“I was in the room, sleeping, when they barged in,” Maryam Nawaz said. PML-N leaders had paid a visit to the Mazar-e-Quaid before the PDM rally in Karachi on Sunday and chanted political slogans at the mausoleum.
