KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani has announced that a fine of Rs 1000 has been proposed for citizens not wearing masks in public places.
Addressing an inauguration ceremony of physiotherapy centers of Dr Essa Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre, Administrator Karachi urged the people of Karachi to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
“COVID-19 cases have started rising in the country, especially in Karachi, so in order to contain the infectious disease, we have once again proposed an Rs1,000 fine for all those would don’t wear a mask in public places,” said Shallwani.
Shallwani revealed that they had first proposed fining those not wearing a mask in public places back in March or April when COVID-19 cases had started rising locally but the proposal was rejected.
He said that they have again forwarded the proposal to the Sindh government to save people from the second wave of the infectious disease.
The coronavirus cases have increased during the past few days and authorities have once again urged the masses to abide by the standard operating procedures and safety precautions.
Commenting on the problems of Karachi, Iftikhar Shalwani said that water scarcity, solid waste management and public transport are the three major problems facing the city.
“The local, provincial and federal governments are on one page to solve the problems of the metropolis,” he assured. Referring to the physiotherapy centers of Isa Laboratories, he said that the establishment of such physiotherapy centers is the need of the hour.
Advising the youth of Karachi, the Administrator said, “I always advise young people, who are looking for a government job, to start their own business. Karachi is an economic hub and one can earn a living even by picking stones.”
