RAWALPINDI: All Pakistan Women Double Wicket Cricket tournament has kicked off in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
According to details, the tournament was inaugurated by DC Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Anwar-ul-Haq at Government Waqar Al-Nisa Post Graduate College for Women, Rawalpindi under the auspices of Youth Education and Sports Welfare Society.
College Principal Prof. Dr. Zahida Parveen, DO Sports Shams Tauheed Abbasi, Prof. Maryam, Shafqat Niazi and others were present at the inaugural function. In the tournament women, players of 26 teams from all over the country are participating.
Teams from different cities including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad and Kotli (Azad Kashmir) participated in the tournament.
On the occasion, DC Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Anwar-ul-Haq said, “There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan but in the current situation it is very important to follow SOPs for the prevention of coronavirus”.
He appreciated the efforts of the Youth Education and Sports Society for the promotion of sports across the country and especially for the national service for women’s sports.
“For the first time, state-of-the-art sports facilities are being provided. Sports complexes and stadiums are being built”, he added.
Anwar-ul-Haq said that all possible steps are being taken to promote sports in remote areas of Punjab as per the sports vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
