Assets case: AC extends hearing of Khursheed Shah's case for 14 days

SUKKUR: Pakistan People Party (PPP) senior leader Khursheed Shah was presented by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) today before an accountability court in assets beyond income case.
The accountability court conducted hearing of the case related to the arrest of PPP leader in Sukkur.  The NAB sought the court for an extension in Khursheed Shah’s remand.
NAB had requested a 15-day extension in the remand of Shah, however, the accountability court gave approval for only thirteen days until October 14.
As the hearing went underway, the NAB prosecutor said that the Shah’s house is constructed on welfare plot with the cost of Rs60 million.
NAB prosecutor added that the investigators have found ten bank accounts of the politicians along with records of transactions up to millions of rupees. He told the court that Shah possesses various Benami properties.
Shah’s counsel Mukesh Kumar argued that Khursheed Shah was being targetted of political revenge as the high court had earlier acquitted him in the allegations.
He complained that the NAB officials did not allow him to meet Shah despite the court orders. He claimed that the on-duty officials forced him to talk in the Urdu language with Shah.

The lawyer said that Shah was being harassed by the NAB officers in custody which did not belong to Sukkur.
He claimed that the house of the politician is situated inside a private society and such societies are allowed to change the formation of the plots.
The accountability court’s judge questioned the counsel for providing the reason for not handing over the documents to the NAB investigators.
However, the council insisted the court sending Khursheed Shah in judicial custody instead of extending his remand. He pleaded to send Shah to jail besides ordering the anti-graft watchdog to immediately conclude the investigations.
On 18th September, the NAB arrested Khursheed Shah. He faces charges of transferring an amnesty plot in Sukkur, Rohri, and Karachi, according to the document and it further reveals that Glamour Bungalow, Junejo Flour Mills, Mukesh Flour Mills including 83 other properties were made under Shah’s frontman, Pehlaj Rai.
