RAWALPINDI: Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov has appreciated the achievements of the Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza called on his Russian counterpart General Valery V. Gerasimov in Moscow.
During the meeting, matters of bilateral military cooperation and regional security dynamics between the two countries were discussed, ISPR said.
The CJCSC is on two days official visit to Russia to attend the Defence and Security Cooperation conference at the SCO forum, the military’s media wing said and added that he will also attend the closing ceremony of ‘International Military Games – 2020’ at Moscow.
Earlier on January 9, Pakistan and Russia had agreed for joint efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had telephoned his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and discussed issues pertaining to soaring tensions in the Middle East and the overall situation in the region.
Qureshi underlined that Pakistan considered Russia an important partner and desired to forge a long-term and multi-dimensional partnership with the country. He also offered condolences over the loss of precious lives in Russia due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two foreign ministers agreed on maintaining close consultations as part of regional efforts to support the Afghan peace process besides remaining in close contact to take forward the important bilateral agenda and close cooperation in the regional context.
