ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Wednesday) has directed the federal institutions to carry out relief operations and help rain-hit people in the metropolis.
While lauding the performance of the Pakistan Army and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for carrying out relief activities in the city he said, “Federal government will not leave people of Karachi alone.”
The Prime Minister further directed the concerned authorities to step up relief efforts in the rain-affected areas of the metropolis and use all available resources in proving relief to the people of Karachi.
Meanwhile, Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar has said that he has reviewed the plan by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to clear Karachi’s nullahs and riverbeds and that work on it will begin by September.
Asad Umar further said that he will approve the plan, work on which will begin by September, and will be completed within one year. “The plan will solve problem of Karachi drowning every time it rains heavily. Largest tax-paying city of Pakistan deserves better than what it is facing today,” he added.

Earlier today (Wednesday), the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that the fresh rain has broken 90-year rainfall records in Karachi.
A 90-year record of monsoon downpour was broken after the most amount of rainfall in Karachi this month after a 345 mm downpour recorded in the city’s PAF Faisal Base, making it the wettest month since 1931, which was previously recorded up to 298.4 in 1984.
