Final England, Pakistan Test ends in a draw

SOUTHAMPTON: The third and final Test between England and Pakistan in Southampton ended in a stalemate today (Tuesday).

However, England won the three-match series by 1-0 because of their three-wicket win in Manchester whereas the second Test in Southampton ended in a draw.

Torrential rain prevented any play until midday at the Ageas Bowl, all but ensuring the draw that left England with a 1-0 series win. There was still the opportunity for Anderson’s moment of history.

James Anderson made Test cricketing history in the final session as he became the first fast-bowler to complete 600 scalps in the longest format of the game.

Pakistan, who needed 210 runs on the final day to avoid an innings defeat with eight wickets in hand, finished the rain-affected fifth day at 187-4. Babar Azam and Fawad Alam were unbeaten at 63 and zero respectively.

The players shook hands just after the last hour began, confirming the second successive weather-affected draw in Southampton. England still record their first series victory over Pakistan in 10 years, but remain third in the World Test Championship behind India and Australia.
