INDORE: Renowned Indian lyricist and poet Rahat Indori, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, passed away today (Monday) after suffering two heart attacks.
According to Indian media, the veteran poet was under treatment at a local hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.
“He suffered two heart attacks today and could not be saved. He was admitted to hospital on Sunday, after testing positive for Covid-19. He had 60 percent pneumonia,” said Dr. Vinod Bhandari of Sri Aurobindo Hospital. He informed that Rahat Indori also suffered from diabetes, hypertension and cardiac issues.
Before he checked himself into a hospital for treatment, Rahat Indori announced on Twitter that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The poet said that he was admitted to a hospital and requested his fans to refrain from speculation.
Indian media reported that Indori’s poetry had played an important role in anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Bill) protests this year. Among the poet’s most powerful lines are “Everybody’s blood mingles in the soil; Hindustan does not belong solely to one”.
In a tweet, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the veteran poet’s death.
