ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has rejected news of back-channel diplomacy underway between Pakistan and India.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Ayesha Farooqui, news of back-channel diplomacy with India was out of the question owing to worsening human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
She further said Occupied Kashmir was stripped of its special rights last August and divided into two federally-administered territories in an attempt by PM Narendra Modi to draw the restive region closer to the rest of the country.
The move was accompanied by a communication blackout, widespread movement restrictions, and mass detentions, including those of elected leaders, the spokesperson added.
Aisha Farooqui emphasized the world community to put pressure on India to lift communication restrictions in IoK to enable the dissemination of information and to ensure the unfettered supply of daily items to the people.
The spokesperson also urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) members to draw their attention towards a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue and Indian atrocities in the region.
“Indian leadership remains bent upon perpetuating India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. The ‘Hindutva’ agenda of the RSS-BJP combine is deliberately targeting defenseless Kashmiris with unspeakable violence to break their will”, she said.
