KARACHI: A protest was held in the Ghaggar area near Karachi’s Bin Qasim against the emission of toxic gases from an acid factory today (Thursday).
According to the residents of the area, hundreds of people had fainted and affected by the highly toxic gases emitted from a private acid factory in Bin Qasim Industrial Area.
One of the residents informed that several people including women and children are suffering from various diseases due to the emission of the toxic gases.
Local social activist Muhammad Yusuf Kalmati said that the toxic gas from the acid factory had affected a large number of people, including women and children. He further said that acid factories should be set up away from the human population.
The local social activist has appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other concerned authorities to take action against the acid factory owner.
Earlier in March, At least 70 people were affected by a gas leak at Engro Polymer & Chemicals Plant in Karachi’s Bin Qasim area. The incident was caused due to the release of chlorine gas through the vents.
The matter was quickly contained and the affectees were immediately taken for necessary first aid to nearby medical facilities.
