ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders have demanded a new accountability body, a day after Supreme Court slammed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Paragon Housing Society case.
Addressing a press conference, former Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique demanded to abolish NAB. “The opposition and government should legislate for a new accountability body,” he added.
Khawaja Saad Rafique said, “There is no atmosphere of justice in the National Accountability Bureau.” He further said that he was disappointed with the justice system but the SC’s decision was a lighthouse for him.
On the occasion, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the Supreme Court decision clearly stated that the NAB was not in the interest of the country. “The hollowness of the accountability drama in Pakistan has been revealed,” he remarked.
Shahid Khaqan also questioned why NAB was taking any action against the corrupt people sitting in the government. “On the other hand, the opposition is thrown in jail for years,” he added.
PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said that the justice prevails when people at the helm of affairs use state institutions to satisfy their ego. “Justice prevailed in Saad Rafique’s case, and it will be remembered in the future,” he said.
He also lauded the decision of the Supreme Court and said that this was the beginning of a process that has affirmed that justice will prevail in the future. “PML-N will use all options of protest available to support press freedom,” he announced.
Earlier on Monday, Justice Gulzar Ahmed had reprimanded the anti-graft watchdog over various actions and processes and said that its conduct throughout this case was a clear manifestation of their utter disregard for the law, fair play, equity, and propriety.
