ISLAMABAD: Following the orders of Islamabad High Court (IHC), Capital Development Authority has stopped the construction of a Hindu Temple in the federal capital today (Friday).
According to details, the government has decided to consult the Islamic Ideology Council (IIC) on the matter.
In this regard, the Religious Ministry spokesman said that the decision on the construction of the temple will be made keeping in view the religious aspect. “Being a state, the rights of the minorities will be protected,” he maintained.
Earlier on July 1, lawyer Chaudhry Tanveer filed a petition against the construction of a temple in Islamabad. In his petition, he said that the land allotted for the construction of the Hindu temple in Sector H-9 of Islamabad should be withdrawn along with the funds allocated for the project.
The petitioner said that a temple already exists in Saidpur Village which should be renovated by the government. He said the land given for temple construction is a violation of Islamabad’s master plan.
The petitioner has named Prime Minister Imran Khan as a party in the petition through his principal secretary. Others include secretary ministry of religious affairs, interior secretary, secretary CDA, chairman CDA board and chairman union council of Sector H-9.
