Opposition parties reject federal budget, demands PM resignation

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Parties have completely rejected the federal government presented Budget for the upcoming fiscal year and demand the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Addressing a press conference today (Sunday) in Islamabad, alongside PML-N’s Khawaja Asif and Jamaat-i-Islami’s (JI) Mian Aslam, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that the opposition leaders have unanimously declined and rejected the budget and will take all measures possible to protest against it.
Bilawal Bhutto said, “The entire nation, including all opposition parties, is united against the budget 2020-21,” adding, “The incumbent government has failed to provide people with relief during the coronavirus pandemic.”
“We were expecting that the government would help protect people’s economic rights. Instead of doing that, the government has increased the burden on the masses,” he added.
He also criticized the government for increasing the price of petroleum products and said, “Rise in fuel prices is an excellent example of PTI government’s hypocrisy.”
Bilawal Bhutto said that the entire opposition had played a responsible role to prevent coronavirus. “When the pandemic hit, we said we will keep partisan issues aside and fight it together,” he added. He also said that PTI lacks’ the leadership to fight the pandemic.
The PPP Chairman said, “The Prime Minister hasn’t taken coronavirus seriously yet. Before the pandemic, he was a threat to our democracy and economy and now, he is a threat to people’s lives.”
Referring to Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal said that Shehbaz Sharif was still in touch with all parties despite his illness. “Even when sick, Shehbaz is making Imran sweat,” he claimed.
PML-N Khawaja Asif
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif said that the PTI-led federal government was on its last legs. He said, “Instead of providing relief during this difficult time, the government had added further burden on the nation.”
Khawaja Asif said, “The premier has become a national burden. As long as he is the Prime Minister, we are headed towards disaster.” He also said that the country needs a new mandate now, which is the only way out of the current problems.
He added that a government that used state institutions to target the opposition was “cowardly”, adding that It is now their turn to be held accountable.
JI’s Mian Aslam and JUI-F member Akram Khan Durrani also criticised the government’s ability to address current problems in the budget.
