ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza has asserted that the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) is taking all possible steps to ensure the availability of remdesivir for coronavirus patients.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Zafar Mirza informed that the US Food and Drug Association (FDA) had already approved the usage of remdesivir for the COVID-19 patients.
The Special Assistant further said that the drug authority has issued import and registration letters to the manufactures to ensure the availability of remdesivir.
Commenting on the rising number of COVID-19 infections, Dr. Zafar Mirza has urged the people of Pakistan to take special care of their elders in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
“So far 72 percent of people over fifty years of age have died due to coronavirus infection,” the Special Assistant informed. He said that senior citizens should avoid public transport and crowded places.
Zafar Mirza has also stressed the need for wearing face masks, observing social distancing, and frequent hand washing to prevent COVID-19.
He said that the Health Ministry has issued special guidelines on the website: covid.gov.pk, for protection of the senior citizens from coronavirus.
