KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 148,921 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 2,839.
Pakistan has recorded more than 111 coronavirus deaths over the past 24 hours, the highest single-day rise since the outbreak. According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 4,443 cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours.
As per data, around 111 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours. As many as 56,390 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
There have been 55,878 cases so far been detected in Punjab, 55,581 in Sindh, 18,013 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8,177 in Balochistan, 8,569 in Islamabad, 1,143 in Gilgit Baltistan and 647 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 2,839 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 707 deaths, Sindh 853, Balochistan 85, Gilgit-Baltistan 17, Punjab 1,081, Azad Kashmir 13 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 78 deaths.
As many as 28 government employees posted at Sindh Assembly had earlier tested positive for COVID-19. The officials said that more results of other Sindh Assembly’s employees who have undergone the virus test will come in the next three days.
The employees underwent the COVID-19 test after 26 provincial lawmakers have contracted the virus so far. Those assembly members, who recently tested positive of novel COVID-19 included Naseem Rajpar and Moazzim Abbasi of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA),
