KARACHI: Pakistan has reported 54,440 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, while the death toll stands at 1,131 across the country.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 54,440 cases of coronavirus were reported while 18 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 14,866 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
A total of 21,645 cases were reported in Sindh, 19,557 in Punjab, 7,685 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,306in Balochistan, 1,457 in Islamabad, 619 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 171 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 1,131 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 389, Sindh 354, Balochistan 39, Gilgit-Baltistan 04, Punjab 332, Azad Kashmir 01 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 12 deaths.
As per details, 22 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
The coronavirus plague continues to wreck across the world and only an effective vaccine will end all chaos. Scientists are scrambling to find a cure by sharing research and overcoming obstacles others may be facing.
There are more than 100 research groups pursuing vaccines with nearly a dozen in advanced stages of human trials or poised to start soon.
Officials have recorded more than 5.1 million cases and over 339,000 deaths since the virus emerged in China in December 2019.
