KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani has said that the provincial authorities were not in a position to reopen schools across the province despite pressure from associations.
Talking to media, the minister said due to the current situation in Pakistan because of COVID-19, there are slim chances of schools being opened.
He said even if the province allows schools to open, parents would be reluctant to send their children to school. According to the minister, the reopening of educational institutes might result in an exponential increase in COVID-19 infections.

He also announced that the provincial government will be launching an app which would be the first step towards a digital class. “Internet distribution is still a problem and we are in touch with cellular services.” said the minister. He said that they were also in talks with cable operators to allocate one channel for education.
“We will try to include as many students as we can in our system,” vowed Ghani. He added that they were also training teachers to get used to conducting the digital class.
“Through this app, students can study in English, Urdu and Sindhi,” said the minister.
He added that the app is available for students of kindergarten till fifth grade.
Saeed Ghani said that all the problems of teachers in the education department are being resolved on a priority basis. However, the cases of teachers pending in the courts and NAB may be delayed, he added.
Besides, the education department is working to resolve all the issues including teachers’ salaries and promotions, the minister said.
