NEW YORK: The United States President Donald Trump has said that the country has passed the peak of the coronavirus cases, which has infected more than 644,000 people in the US.
At the daily White House briefing regarding coronavirus, the US president also predicted that some states would reopen this month. He said, “New reopening guidelines will be announced soon.”
Donald Trump said, “While we must remain vigilant, it is clear that our aggressive strategy is working,” adding, “The battle continues, but the data suggests that nationwide we have passed the peak on new cases.”
The US president assured, “We’ll be the comeback kids, all of us,” adding, “We want to get our country back.”
He further informed that new cases are declining in New York, which has more confirmed cases than any country outside the U.S. “The cases are flat in Denver and Detroit, while other cities including Baltimore and Philadelphia are showing great signs of success,” he added.
“I would say that we have 20 states, at least, but you really have 29 that are in extremely good shape. You have others that are getting much better,” he assured.
The US president announced, “My administration is using every available authority to accelerate the development, study and delivery of therapies,” adding that at least 35 clinical trials of treatments are underway.
The Trump administration has previously announced May 1st as a possible date to reopen the nation, but the president said that some states may be able to return to normalcy earlier than that.
The United States remains the worst-hit country from the novel coronavirus with more than 644,000 infections and more than 28,500 deaths.
