ISLAMABAD: As many as eight new cases of poliovirus were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, rising the tally to 33 in the country in 2020.
Of the total eight cases, six were reported in KP, including two in Peshawar and one each in Khyber tribal area, Bannu, Nowshera and Lakki Marwat while two were registered from Faisalabad.
A total of 25 poliovirus cases were reported in the country in the current year, before these newly eight cases.
On March 14, two polio cases surface in Sindh, KP. Both Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had reported two more new cases of polio, jumping the total number of polio cases that emerged in 2020 across the country to 31.

Health authorities said a three-old-girl, Fareeha who belongs to Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, contracted poliovirus. While the other has been detected in a three-year-old girl, a resident of Morro in Naushahro Feroze Sindh.
