The coronavirus outbreak that originated in China has now spread to almost every country in the world. The virus has spread to almost 190 countries across the globe as over 1.7 billion people are being instructed to stay at home.
This is a very serious situation given that the provincial governments across the country have declared a lockdown at their own level, but in the meantime, the public is demonstrating a careless and irrational attitude that is rather unacceptable.
Lockdown and the public attitude
Citizens did not take the government’s decision to impose a lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus seriously, nor have they taken the deadly disease seriously. On the second day of lockdown in Karachi, the same situation is being witnessed in the city that people have come out of their homes in a normal routine which can spread the virus and put the lives of others at severe risk.
Such reckless behaviour is actually inviting the Sindh government to tighten the rules and impose a curfew in the province. The public is generally unaware of the coronavirus carrier, and while people keep a distance from those who are coughing or have a fever, they do not know that a person suffering from coronavirus appears to be healthy and normal for five days.
According to experts, the person infected with the virus can transmit the coronavirus to others easily. In this inexplicable way, the virus does not spread in the air, but through shaking hands with a coronavirus patient it can be easily transmitted. The disease is highly contagious and with no cure or vaccine, it has become ever more dreaded.
The government’s decision of shutting down the city was to prevent such outbreaks, but citizens have yet to demonstrate seriousness, which has prompted the government to consider more stringent measures and the implementation of a “curfew.”
Example of Italy
People have no idea what happens in a curfew. But first, let’s set the example of other countries in the world. Governments that did not take the coronavirus seriously and used unnecessary tactics to delay action. When they took action it was too late. The first example of Italy is important.
The Italian government did not take adequate steps in its development and when the situation got out of hands, the Italian government issued a lockdown order, but it was observed that the people of Italy did not take the lockdown seriously so as the people of Pakistan today are demonstrating irrelevance same as Italy.
Consequences of non-seriousness
The consequences of the non-seriousness of the few are being suffered by the whole public and the Italian government itself. Today the average daily casualties in Itlay 400 in Italy. There, the coronavirus is rapidly affecting citizens. In Italy, 63,927 people are infected with the virus until now. Another European country is France where the lockdown was imposed late.
The people who had the coronavirus transferred had transformed into their family. In this way, the number of victims of coronavirus has increased tremendously. The average daily death toll in the virus has reached 200 in France. The third country is Spain, where the result of the delayed lockdown also appears negative. Iran is also among those countries that have waited for the virus to spread further in its country until it got out of control.
Coronavirus and curfew
If we talk about the history of curfew in Pakistan, the highest number of curfews were imposed in the 90s, while the most severe curfew was imposed in 1990, 1992, 1994, while another curfew was imposed on 5th July 2003.
The curfew of 1992 is known to be the toughest where no one was allowed to even peek out. The army controlled the entire city and no one was allowed to come out of their house. However, during the lockdown, people have the facility that they can go out of their homes and take food, medicine in extreme need.
In addition, petrol pumps, puncture shops are open but in the curfew, everything will be closed. Every type of business, whether it’s a milk shop or a medical store closed and no one is allowed to come out of the house in a curfew.
We have dragged ourselves to the point that we are provoking the government to place the curfew by violating lockdowns. In such a situation, curfew enforcement is becoming inevitable in order to protect the people from the coronavirus, and the government has already begun to think and advise over imposing the curfew.
Now if the government takes such a drastic decision, it will be an effective measure to curb the spread of coronavirus. This may be very harsh to the people but is not beyond their lives and health.
