MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Raja Farooq Haider has announced a three-week lockdown in the region in order to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.
Raja Farooq Haider announced that the lockdown will start from midnight 12:00. However, emergency services will remain functional.
The AJK Prime Minister urged the people of region to stay at home and avoid going out unnecessarily.
Commenting on the restrictions, Raja Farooq said that transport will remain suspended and people will not be allowed to go out unnecessarily during this period.
However, he added, special passes will be issued to people for travelling in inevitable circumstances.
He further said that one person from each family will be allowed to go out to buy food and journalists will also be issued special passes.
Earlier today, Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar imposed a province-wide lockdown starting midnight for the next 14 days.
The decision came after Usman Buzdar chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the steps being taken by the provincial government to tackle the pandemic.
CM Punjab said the lockdown will be enforced from tomorrow at 9 am till April 6.
