KARACHI: Sindh Building Control Authority has planned on demolishing a list of illegal wedding halls and banquets as per the orders of the Supreme Court.
Advance bookings for the banquet and wedding halls have been made 6 to 8 months in advance already.
In this regard, a report of the proceedings will be soon submitted to the SC. It has been decided to take vigorous action against 385 banknotes, marriage lawns, and halls that have been constructed near plots, and residential areas.
When contacted, SBCA’s Additional Director General Engineer Ashkar Dawar in this regard confirmed the decision to take action against lawns, banknotes, and halls of illegal and partially illegal law.
Ashkar Dawar said that notices have already been issued to the authorities regarding the marriage halls, and lawns. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Gulzar Ahmed has ordered that all types of illegal structures in the city of Karachi to be abolished.
In the case of non-termination of the construction, contempt of court and other proceedings may be filed against the concerned institutions. Meanwhile, a total of 385 wedding lawns, banquets and halls are operating illegally in 13 cities in the city.
Most wedding halls have been built on residential and charitable plots, most of them in Orangi Town, with 74 in number. Gulshan Iqbal One is the second town with illegal wedding halls, lawns and requisites, where there are 68 illegal lawns and banquets.
According to SBCA records, 38 in North Nazimabad Town, 30 in Gadap Town, 28 in North Karachi, 22 in Shah Faisal Town, 20 in Gulshan-Tu, 19 in Baldia Town, 14 in Jamshed Quarter Town 1 and 14 on Tu. 11 lawns, halls and banquet are illegal in Bin Qasim Town and 8 in President Town One.
In the 45 anti-law lines located in Korangi, 42 Bancoites and Halls residential plots have been constructed on 1 commercial plot and two chartered plots. SBCA sources say that proceedings will be initiated against all these banknotes, lawns and halls in a maximum period of 2 months.
It is to be noted that all the wedding halls, lounges and banquets mentioned above have been booked for 75 percent of the total amount of the event till December and forward booking is in progress.
