ISLAMABAD: A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) over the appointment of the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant.
A petition was filed against the special assistant’s designation. During the hearing, the judge Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani conducted the hearing, asked a written response from the federal government on the appointment of the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant.
Prime Minister’s 15 Special Assistant, including Firdous Ashiq Awan was also included in the hearing. During the hearing, Farrukh Nawaz Bhatti appeared in court with his lawyer, Dr. GM Chaudhry, while all the assistants, including Zulfi Bukhari and Sanya Nishtar, were also present.
During the hearing in the High Court, Prosecutor Dr. GM Chaudhry argued that the assistants were using special and equal powers of the Minister of State. Under what law were these powers given? The Prime Minister should seek a response.
Arguing, Dr. GM Chaudhry said that orders should be issued to the Special Assistant to stop the work, on which the court directed the Federal Government to submit a response from the Assistant Specialist to the Registrar’s Office.
While giving remarks on the matter, Justice Aamir Farooq said that the constitution in the UK and US was not written, whereas in Pakistan the constitution was in writing.
The appointments of Firdous Ashiq Awan, Nadeem Afzal, and Ali Nawaz Awan have been challenged. The appointment of Zulfi Bukhari, Shahzad Akbar, Maid Yousuf, Usman Dar has also been challenged.
The judges adjourned the hearing of the case till 26th March. It may be recalled that the Islamabad High Court had earlier issued notices to the parties during the hearing against the 15 Prime Minister’s special aides and called for a response within two weeks.
