KARACHI: Governor Sindh Imran Ismail visited Deaf Reach School and College in Karach’s Gulistan-e-Johar and enquired about the facilities being provided to the students there.
He also visited classrooms, computer and science labs and lauded the free of cost facilities to the students. He commended the management especially the founder of the School Richard Geary and his wife Heidi for working for the betterment of Deaf Children.
Governor Sindh after visiting various sections of the school said that he was very much impressed by the talented students who are performing with excellence not only in their studies but in co-curriculum activities, also.
He said that Special Children are not lesser in any means as compared with normal children. Governor Sindh announced Rs 0.1mn monthly grant from his own pocket for the school and pledged to motivate philanthropists for donations.
Richard Geary informed Governor Sindh that this school has seven branches all over the country from which five are situated in Sindh. Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah and Tando Allahyar are branches of the school in Sindh. In Karachi 240 children are studying, he added.
He said that all facilities including tuition fees, uniforms, books and transportation are free for every student in this institution. Around Rs7,500 per month are incurred on each student.
Meanwhile, speaking with media on the occasion Governor Sindh said that Prime Minister would soon inaugurate completed Federal funded development projects in Karachi.
Replying to a question, Governor said that it was true that the progress and prosperity of the country lie in development of Karachi and as such Federal Government was attaching top priority in this regard.
Rs.162 billion projects announced by the Prime Minister are in various phases of approval, he added. While replying to a question about the start of Green Line BRT, Imran Ismail said that it would take time as special buses are to be purchased which would also have access for persons with disabilities.
