KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened Tuesday on a measured note, with the benchmark KSE‑100 Index edging up 66 points, or 0.04 per cent, to 164,015.49 by 10:00am.
The modest gains followed a strong close the previous evening, when the index had surged 954 points, restoring positive momentum after a bruising week of losses.
Trading activity remained active, with 74 million shares worth Rs3.85 billion changing hands across 51,747 transactions. Market breadth, however, was mixed: 159 scrips advanced, 213 declined, and 188 remained unchanged, reflecting cautious investor sentiment after Monday’s rebound.
Among key indices, the All‑Share Index slipped marginally by 3.68 points, while the KSE‑30 shed 155.65 points (-0.32pc). The Banking Index (BKTI) also fell 0.50pc, though the KMI‑30 managed a slight gain of 42.81 points (+0.02pc), underscoring sectoral divergence.
Analysts noted that while yesterday’s closing rally lifted confidence, investors remain watchful of external financing developments and global oil price trends. The restrained opening suggests profit‑taking and consolidation, as traders weigh whether Monday’s rebound marks the start of sustained recovery or a temporary respite from last week’s heavy sell‑off.
