Cambridge International has confirmed that an A-Level Mathematics examination paper was leaked prior to the test, in breach of regulations.
In a statement, the examination body said Paper 12 (9709), which was administered across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan and South Asia, had been shared before the exam took place.
Cambridge said it treats such incidents with the utmost seriousness and has launched a full investigation to determine the nature and extent of the breach. Further updates are expected to be provided on 7 May 2026.
The organisation stressed that its priority is to ensure that students are not disadvantaged and that the integrity and fairness of the examination process are maintained.
Students have been advised to continue their preparations and sit upcoming examinations as scheduled.
Cambridge added that any decisions regarding next steps will be taken by senior and experienced experts to ensure the credibility of grades, so they remain trusted by universities and other institutions.
It also noted that breaches of exam integrity are rare, but where evidence of malpractice is found, action is taken against the individuals and examination centres involved.
The development follows reports that the paper had been circulated on social media approximately six hours before the exam on Wednesday.
