JHELUM: An armed attack on the academy of prominent Islamic scholar and educator Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Jhelum was swiftly neutralized by law enforcement on Sunday morning, with one attacker killed in police retaliatory fire.
According to police officials, at approximately 10:45 AM, two armed attackers targeted the academy’s premises. One of the assailants had positioned himself on the green belt on the opposite side of the road, from where he opened fire on the academy’s front gate and the police personnel deployed at the scene.

Law enforcement officers attempted to intercept and stop the armed attacker, however, he opened fire on the police, injuring one police employee in the exchange. The injured officer responded with courage under fire and has since been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His condition has not yet been officially disclosed.
Owing to the timely presence and swift response of police personnel already stationed at the location, the attackers’ plan was effectively foiled. In the ensuing retaliatory fire, one attacker was shot and killed on the spot.
Investigations into the incident are currently underway. Authorities are working to determine the identities, motives, and affiliations of the attackers, as well as to ascertain the whereabouts of the second suspect.
