Karachi Police has announced strict legal action against owners of vehicles and motorcycles using unauthorised or fancy number plates from next week.
According to the police spokesperson, a citywide crackdown will begin on 30 March 2026, during which indiscriminate action will be taken against those using unapproved number plates.
Authorities have urged citizens to rectify their vehicle number plates immediately and ensure they use only government-approved plates to avoid any inconvenience.
The spokesperson stated that the use of non-standard or fancy number plates is illegal, as it makes vehicle identification difficult and poses security risks.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of Additional IG Karachi, Azaad Khan, citizens have been directed to ensure that only officially approved number plates are installed on their vehicles.
