Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that early issuance of passports to overseas Pakistanis is a top priority.
A special meeting chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain was held to review the progress made in obtaining Spanish resident cards for Pakistanis.
Mohsin Naqvi directed that no criminal or wanted accused should be issued a passport.
He said embassies were directed to immediately provide additional staff for the passport section.
The verification of character certificates has been made easier and faster by the National Police Bureau, Mohsin Naqvi said.
He said police character certificates are being issued on a priority basis.
The meeting decided that passports and other documents are to be issued to Pakistanis in a week before registration begins to legalise illegal immigrants in Spain.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain said about 15,000 Pakistanis, besides other countries, will benefit from this Spanish scheme.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain thanked the Interior Ministry for providing full support to Pakistanis living in Spain.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Federal Secretary for Interior, Secretary Overseas Pakistanis, DG FIA, Additional Secretary for Foreign Affairs, MDOPF, NADRA and senior officials of Passport participated in the meeting.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain Dr Zahoor Ahmed, Consul General Barcelona Muhammad Ali Wazir and the Community Welfare Attaché participated in the meeting via Zoom.

It was briefed that all institutions are working together to ensure timely availability of necessary documents to Pakistanis.
The issuance of character certificates and passports has accelerated significantly.
