KARACHI: The metropolis is under yet another weather alert as the Meteorological Department forecasts intermittent to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds across the city today.
Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham confirmed the presence of a western disturbance over Sindh, that will persist through the night, with clouds gathering over the sea poised to move inland — potentially delivering 50 mm or more of rainfall. The city recorded 55 mm of rain in Korangi overnight, the highest in the region.
Meanwhile, temperatures have dropped significantly since last night’s downpour, with the minimum hitting 18.5°C. While the weather feels pleasant now, authorities warn of 1–2 heavy spells today, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas. Rain is also expected in Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sukkur, Larkana, and surrounding districts.
It may be added here that the death toll from yesterday’s storms in Karachi has climbed to 21, with 60 others injured — many from collapsing roofs and walls, with falling billboards and power outages have added to the chaos. The administration has been alerted to prepare for further wind-related hazards as gusts, though weaker than yesterday, still pose risks.
Residents in general have been advised to stay indoors, avoid waterlogged areas, and secure loose structures. Emergency services remain on high alert.
