US President Donald Trump has declared that Washington will not interfere in the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, saying Islamabad is handling the situation well.
Speaking to reporters in Texas, Trump said he views the dispute as one between the two neighbouring countries and does not intend to step in. “Islamabad is doing well with Kabul,” he said, signalling a hands-off approach from the White House.
Trump also took the opportunity to express his regard for Pakistan’s leadership, saying he holds both Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in high esteem.
He described them as “world leaders” and said his conversations with both men had been substantive and respectful. “This country has great leadership,” he added.
On Iran, Trump struck a more cautious but firm tone. He reiterated that Tehran cannot be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons, saying he is “not happy” with Iran’s current posture.
However, he indicated that diplomacy remains his preferred path forward, noting that further talks are expected by Friday and that he is keen to reach a deal. “I do not want to use force against Iran,” he said, “but sometimes force has to be used.”
