The United States Mission to Pakistan has issued a security advisory urging American citizens in the country to exercise caution following what it describes as “heightened tensions” with neighbouring Afghanistan.
The advisory singles out law enforcement facilities, military installations, and major commercial centers as locations of particular concern, warning that these sites are “likely targets for terrorist organizations.”
Citizens are advised to stay alert, avoid unnecessary exposure in these areas, and monitor local developments closely.

The warning comes alongside a separate reminder from the U.S. Mission in Afghanistan, which reiterated that Afghanistan remains at Level 4, Do Not Travel, the highest risk designation issued by the State Department, citing ongoing and significant security threats across the country.
The back-to-back advisories reflect growing unease about the security environment along one of the region’s most volatile borders, as tensions between Islamabad and Kabul have shown little sign of easing in recent months.
U.S. citizens currently in Pakistan are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), stay in contact with the U.S. Mission, and have contingency plans in place.
