Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, is set to host the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches for the first time this year.
The upcoming 11th edition of PSL, scheduled to begin on March 26, will feature eight teams after the including of two new franchises Hyderabad and Rawalpindi.
Peshawar, once a prominent venue for international cricket, has not hosted Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches since the tournament began in 2016. However, it was sidelined amid years of militant violence that discouraged foreign players from touring the region.
However, provincial officials have now confirmed that the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, formerly Arbab Niaz Stadium, will host matches during the 11th edition of the PSL. The venue last staged an international fixture on February 6, 2006, when Pakistan defeated India by seven runs under the Duckworth–Lewis method after poor light stopped play.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Shafi Jan described the development as “big, good news” for the province following a high-level security meeting on Tuesday.
He said Peshawar Zalmi will, for the first time, have Peshawar as their home ground, with trophy roadshows planned across the province.
