JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has described Pakistan’s possible inclusion in the so-called Board of Peace as a matter of grave importance.
He said that former US president Donald Trump had openly stated that the command of this Board of Peace would remain in his own hands.
Referring to the situation in Gaza, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that 70,000 innocent civilians have been martyred, while more than 100,000 Palestinians have died due to hunger.
He questioned whether any Muslim truly comprehends the suffering endured there.
He stated that Israel was established a year after the creation of Pakistan, and that its roots lay in the 1917 Balfour Declaration, calling it a continuation of the colonial system under which an occupying state was imposed on Palestinian land.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that a committee of the then League of Nations had produced a report on the displacement of Jews and had clearly stated that they should not be settled in Palestine, as the region was already densely populated.
Despite this, he added, a calculated plan was executed that amounted to stabbing the Arabs in the back.
He criticised the current initiative, saying that Trump is now forming a Board of Peace and may appoint members of his own choosing.
“It is sheer naivety,” he remarked, “to expect peace from the same source that has caused such devastation.”
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that no one in the past year has witnessed as many corpses as the Palestinians have. He concluded by asking: “Where is that bond of faith today, about which the Hadith speaks so clearly?”
