Pakistani mainstream media, which has increasingly become irrelevant, has hit a new low by airing shows centered on obscene leaked videos and interviewing individuals involved in intimate acts.
Recently, a video circulating on social media, dubbed “Umairy Leaks,” reportedly featured explicit content involving a woman and a younger man. Multiple versions of the video appeared online, varying in length, with some running for 7 minutes and 11 seconds. The footage, believed to have been recorded by the individuals themselves, depicts a couple engaged in a private intimate encounter.

As if the circulation of such obscene content was not enough, a local television channel, New News, invited the woman featured in the video to appear on its program Pukaar, where she was interviewed alongside her family.
Ironically, Pukaar is marketed as an investigative journalism show. However, its anchor, Tehmina Sheikh, appeared unable to find any meaningful issues to investigate in this lawless country other than exploiting this vulgar episode for ratings.
Following the release of program clips online, netizens strongly condemned Tehmina Sheikh and New News for promoting yellow journalism.
Senior journalist Shahid Aslam also criticized the broadcast, writing:
“Whatever channel this woman works for, she should either learn basic journalistic ethics, or those who hired her should be ashamed. What kind of journalism is this, where a woman is subjected to indecent questioning while seated with her parents, cameras rolling, and vulgar questions being asked? A journalist must uphold at least the most basic professional responsibilities.”
