Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated the newly expanded arena at the Wagah Border, marking a major upgrade to one of the country’s most prominent national landmarks.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Senior Minister Mariam Aurangzeb and the Lahore Corps Commander, among other officials.
The expansion has increased the arena’s seating capacity to 25,000 spectators, significantly enhancing arrangements for visitors attending the daily flag-lowering ceremony.
Officials said the project also includes extensive new construction at the Joint Check Post Wagah. The additions feature model structures inspired by a railway station, displays of military equipment and a theme park aimed at improving the overall visitor experience.
A Pakistan Museum has also been established within the arena, showcasing the country’s journey from the independence movement to the present day.
The complex further includes additional offices, barracks for Rangers personnel, food courts and expanded car parking facilities.
As part of the redevelopment, a new ceremonial gateway at Bab-e-Azadi has been installed in the architectural style of the Alamgiri Gate of Lahore’s Shahi Qila.
