The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, intercepted a consignment of smuggled mobile phones worth approximately Rs. 62 million during an intelligence-based operation carried out on Thursday morning.
According to a press release, the operation was launched after receiving credible information about a Mazda truck transporting smuggled mobile phones from Balochistan to Karachi. ASO teams promptly deployed plainclothes personnel at key locations to monitor the vehicle’s movement.
A Mazda truck bearing registration number NAF-859, arriving via Sakran Road, was intercepted at the Hamdard Checkpost and later shifted to the CPF Warehouse for a thorough inspection.
During the examination, officials recovered 803 mobile phones of various brands, including iPhone, Vivo, Google Pixel, Infinix, and Spark, concealed in a specially built hidden cavity within the vehicle.
The seized mobile phones were valued at around Rs. 62 million, while the truck was estimated to be worth Rs. 25 million, bringing the total value of the seizure to approximately Rs. 87 million.
The driver and his helper were taken into custody, and legal proceedings are currently in progress. An FIR is being registered under the relevant laws.
The operation underscores the Federal Board of Revenue’s continued efforts to curb smuggling and illegal trade.
