After Sindh, Punjab has also significantly increased fines for traffic violations, as the Punjab Law Department has issued a new ordinance detailing penalties for vehicle-related offences.
According to the ordinance issued with the approval of the Governor of Punjab, speeding will now result in a fine of Rs 2,000 for motorcycles and Rs 5,000 for cars.
The ordinance states that for traffic signal violations, motorcycles will be fined Rs 2,000, rickshaws and Qingqi vehicles Rs 3,000, cars Rs 5,000, vehicles under 2000cc Rs 10,000, and vehicles above 2000cc Rs 15,000.
For overloading, the fine for three-wheelers has been set at Rs 3,000, for vehicles under 2000cc Rs 5,000, and for vehicles above 2000cc Rs 10,000.
Similarly, trailers will be fined Rs 15,000 for overloading.
According to the Law Department, fines for emitting excessive smoke have also been increased: Rs 2,000 for motorcycles, Rs 3,000 for three-wheelers, Rs 8,000 for large vehicles, and Rs 15,000 for public transport vehicles found emitting smoke.
