Pakistani actor Mehmood Akhtar has alleged that contemporary Pakistani dramas are being funded by the West to promote “negative ideals” and Western agendas.
During an interview on a private TV program, Akhtar claimed that specific topics and scripts are being funded by Western entities to produce dramas that align with their values.
This influx of foreign-funded content is “destroying our ethics” and damaging local cultural and moral foundations.

He believes the quality of Pakistani dramas has eroded significantly over the years, from meaningful storytelling in the past to a “new fraud” influenced by foreign agendas today.
Akhtar expressed regret that “no one is paying attention” and that writers, producers, and even viewers seem content with this trend, fearing the long-term repercussions on society.
This has been a controversial statement that has generated significant discussion within the industry and among viewers.
