The District Health Officer (DHO) of Hyderabad has confirmed that 201 new dengue cases have been reported in the city during the last 24 hours, highlighting the alarming spread of the mosquito-borne virus across the region.
According to the DHO, the continuous rise in dengue cases has put severe pressure on local hospitals, with several patients being admitted daily for treatment.
Health authorities have warned citizens to take strict preventive measures, including eliminating standing water and using mosquito repellents.
Meanwhile, the administration of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) revealed that over the past one and a half months, the hospital’s laboratory has confirmed more than 7,000 dengue cases through diagnostic testing. Medical experts have described the situation as one of the worst dengue outbreaks the city has faced in recent years.
The Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) administration further reported that 17 patients who died during treatment at different hospitals in Hyderabad had tested positive for dengue.
Most of the deceased were residents of densely populated urban areas where mosquito breeding has increased due to stagnant water and poor sanitation.
According to Commissioner Hyderabad, at least three deaths have been officially confirmed in government hospitals as being directly caused by dengue fever. However, he noted that 14 additional deaths that occurred at homes are still under investigation, as health authorities have yet to confirm whether those individuals were infected with the virus.
