Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of US crude oil, a milestone in the country’s energy and trade relations with Washington.
The vessel, MT Pegasus, departed from Houston, Texas, on September 14 and arrived at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility in Hub, Balochistan, on Wednesday, carrying one million barrels of crude oil.
This marks the largest oil shipment ever to dock at a Pakistani port, setting a new precedent for the nation’s maritime logistics capacity.
The delivery follows a landmark Pakistan-US trade agreement signed on July 31, 2025, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in energy, investment, and exports.
According to Cnergyico, the successful import underscores growing trust between the two nations in advancing energy collaboration. Two additional shipments—one expected in mid-November and another in 2026—signal the beginning of a sustained energy partnership.
The Ministry of Finance said that the agreement focuses on reducing tariffs on Pakistani exports, encouraging investment, and promoting collaboration in energy, minerals, IT, and cryptocurrency. Former US President Donald Trump hailed the accord on Truth Social, calling it a “strategic partnership” to develop Pakistan’s vast oil potential. Analysts say the deal reflects Washington’s renewed economic engagement with Pakistan and a boost to its energy security and industrial growth.
