Lawyer Hadi Ali Chattha, husband of human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the ongoing case involving controversial social media posts allegedly critical of state and national security institutions.
According to initial reports, Chattha was taken into custody by law enforcement officials shortly after appearing before a court in Islamabad. His arrest is reportedly linked to allegations that he amplified posts shared by Imaan Mazari on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Officials said that Chattha became part of the investigation for retweeting posts deemed by authorities as “anti-state” and “controversial.”
Earlier, an Islamabad court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for both Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha. The warrants were issued during the latest hearing of the case, presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka, after the couple failed to appear before the court as directed.
Further proceedings are expected as the investigation continues into the alleged online activity and its implications under Pakistan’s laws on national security and cyber regulations.
